Zooming in on Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Wonder in Southern Africa, straddled by Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Zambezi River "feeds" this marvellous sight, so it's best to visit when it's in full flood, usually between February and July.

You can stay at one of the many luxury lodges on either side to take full advantage of the area's splendour. Plus, if you book with our fabulous Travel Experts, you can rest assured you'll feel welcomed with open arms and enjoy ooh-la-la exclusivity!

Here are just some of the reasons we love to visit Victoria Falls and are pretty sure you'll do too!

It’s The Biggest Waterfall on Earth

In this case, size does matter! The fact that Victoria Falls is gigantic adds to the drama of witnessing it in person! Almost two kilometres in width and showing off with a spray that can be seen from over 40 kilometres away, it's not something you can miss!

Hello, Land of The Daredevil

Do you laugh in the face of danger? Enjoy that feeling of sweet adrenaline surging through your veins? Well then, let's introduce you to Devil's Pool! Just like the name insinuates, it's a little risky. Think swimming in Mother Nature's very own infinity pool, right on the edge of Victoria Falls, plunging to the depths below! Please note that this is a seasonal activity and accessible from Zambia's side.

It Wears The Crown as Natural Wonder of The World

Africa has many natural wonders, but Vic Falls made such an impression that it officially and proudly wears the title of being listed as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Wondering which other ones accompany it on this list? It shares the title with Mount Everest, Polar Aurora, Paricutin Volcano, the Great Barrier Reef, the Harbour of Rio de Janeiro, and the Grand Canyon.

Waving its Rainbow Flag

Something not many people know about Victoria Falls is that it puts on an extra special show during full moon. Yes, you can see rainbows colouring the mist during the day, but when the moon is round, it bounces off the spray and creates an unusual "moonbow", aka a rainbow at night. You can see this from sunset to sunrise, and it's quite a spectacle.

It's a Whole Lotta Heart-Pumping Fun

Victoria Falls and its surrounds is nicknamed "The Adventure Capital", because it offers so much adrenaline-fueled adventure! Think white water rafting, helicopter flips over Victoria Falls, microlighting, gorge swings, ziplining and more.

Legendary as "The Smoke That Thunders"

Famous explorer David Livingstone heard about a majestic waterfall locals called "Mosi-oa-Tunya", which means "The Smoke that Thunders". Upon seeing it, Livingstone was so taken by it that he named it after Queen Victoria, the British monarch at the time.

It's Raining, It's Pouring

Did you know that the Victoria Falls Rainforest on Zimbabwe's side is the only rainforest on this planet that has constant "rainfall"? Therefore, this area has some pretty special plant and animal life. This "rain" is actually not coming from the clouds but the vapour rising from Victoria Falls quenches the surroundings.

It's Magically Beautiful

Sure, you can enjoy plenty of activities around Victoria Falls, but really, just looking at it is enough reason to visit. When Livingstone saw it for the first time, he wrote: "No one can imagine the beauty of the view from anything witnessed in England. It had never been seen before by European eyes, but scenes so lovely must've been gazed upon by angels in flight".

It's Pretty Powerful

Pretty? Check. Powerful? Double check! It's estimated that around 600 million cubic litres of water gushes to the ground every minute. That sheer volume of water is what causes such a commotion, both visually and audibly.

Wildlife All Around

While most people know Victoria Falls for its many water-based activities and for admiring the actual waterfall, it's also a safari mecca! Think game drives, bush walks, sunset or sunrise cruises on the Zambezi River to watch hippos yawn and crocodiles sunbathing on the river banks. Plus, there are may game reserves to visit, with Mana Pools National Park deserving a special mention.
