All aboard! We’re going for a ride. Step back into time and onto the Rovos Rail train, decorated with wood panels and Edwardian finishes. You'll feel like a fine lady or a debonair sir in your finest outfits and see landscapes and tapestries of Southern Africa that you would've otherwise missed. Here's a glimpse of what to expect on your luxury train journey.
The Setting
They had us at "old-world charm", but the luxurious kind of the golden age. To help you savour the setting, you won’t find radios and televisions on Rovos to protect the ambience. And that suits us just fine, thank you. So, sit back and soak up every second, whether as a star-eyed duo, group of friends, quality time with the fam, or just a solo expedition to get away from it all.
Remember that it's a formal setting, so pack your finest apparel for smart casual days and more formal dinners. You can expect fine china, silver cutlery, and delicate glassware. Kling-kling-kling!
The Journeys
The train's “big picture windows” allow you to take the entire panoramic view of Southern Africa. Varying from two days to two weeks, there are numerous journeys you can choose from to see the part of Africa you're longing to see.
Fancy Victoria Falls? We definitely do! If you choose this journey, it starts in Pretoria and will take you to Zimbabwe on a three- or four-night journey. Reach out to our Travel Experts to hear if you can start your journey in Cape Town. Yes, we might be biased since this is our home, but we're proud to say South Africa is a real beauty and not to be missed.

Rovos Rail
You can also travel all the way through Namibia and visit the Fish River Canyon, Kalahari, LĂĽderitz, Sossusvlei, and Walvis Bay.
Or, travel from coast to coast on a 15-night journey that takes you from Der es Salaam in Tanzania, through South Luangwa National Park, Angola, and ends in Benguela on the other side of the continent.
In total, there are 11 journeys to choose from, covering South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, parts of Tanzania, and Angola. So, take your pick! It’s one of the best gay-friendly ways to traverse this magnificent continent.
The Train
There are three different suites to choose from, namely the Pullman (7 sqm), Deluxe (10 sqm), and the Royal (16 sqm), all of them ensuite. Each one will give you the utmost privacy while wrapping you in the finest linen imaginable. Although it’s intimate, there's enough storage space for your luggage and attire.
Enjoy the open balcony of the observation car, enjoy a drink at the bar and in the lounge car, share conversations in the smoking lounge, and pretend you’re in a Titanic scene in the dining car. Each car is decorated to the finest detail, and you'll be cared for with service of the highest standards.
